RECAP: Thailand reports 2,525 daily Covid-19 infections with 31 additional deaths today

Thailand discovered a total of 2,525 daily Covid-19 infections with 31 additional deaths in the past 24 hours, the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported today, December 20th.

The fatalities were 17 men and 14 women with the most numbers recorded in Chiang Mai with 4. 30 of them were Thai nationals and one was a Myanmar national. The age range was between 30 and 99 years old.

Most of them were reported with underlying health conditions, including hypertension (16), diabetes (9), hyperlipidemia (6), obesity (3), and kidney disease (6). One of the fatalities was a bedridden patient.

Of the new cases, 2,411 were found in hospitals and medical services (which includes contact tracing cases), 49 were from a proactive approach at previously reported clusters, 23 were from prisons, and the remaining 42 were imported cases.

A number of 40,097 patients are still under treatment/isolation/medical care. Of that, 899 patients are in critical condition including 246 on ventilators. This is roughly 2.24 percent of cases that are critical while 27.3 percent of that is critical enough for a ventilator.

Regarding the non-prison local infections, the highest number of patients were reported in Bangkok with 408, followed by Nakhon Sri Thammarat with 175, Samut Prakan with 136, Chonburi with 128, Songkhla with 88, and Chiang Mai with 78.

A total number of 136,992 people nationwide have received Covid-19 vaccines in the past 24 hours. Of that, 25,314 people had received their first shots, 46,222 people had received their second shots, and 65,456 people had received their third shots. This is roughly 70.2% of the total Thai population who have had their first shot of a Covid-19 vaccine, 61.6% who have had a second shot and are fully vaccinated, and 6.9% have had a third booster shot.

According to the Public Health Ministry’s report as of 9:30 PM. of Sunday, Thailand has also exceeded 100 million Covid-19 vaccine doses shots as planned by the government within December, with 61 percent or about 44.4 million of the population receiving full doses and almost 7 percent or more than 5 million people getting their booster shots.

As of today, 4,190 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 2,194,053 cases with 2,132,548 recoveries and a total of 21,408 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
