Thailand reported a total of 23,945 daily Covid-19 infections with 70 additional deaths in the past 24 hours, the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported today, March 16th.
The fatalities were 34 men and 36 women. 68 of them were Thai nationals and one of each was a British and Myanmar national. The age range was between 1 and 98 years old.
Most of them were reported with underlying health conditions, including cancer (6), kidney disease (21), obesity (1), stroke (6), and heart disease (13). Five of the fatalities were bedridden patients.
Of the new cases, 23,507 were found in hospitals and medical services (which includes contact tracing cases), 235 were from a proactive approach at previously reported clusters, 155 were from prisons, and the remaining 48 were imported cases.
A number of 221,972 patients are still under treatment/isolation/medical care. Of that, 1,401 patients are in critical condition including 507 on ventilators. This is roughly 0.63 percent of cases that are critical while 36.1 percent of that is critical enough for a ventilator.
Regarding the non-prison local infections, the highest number of patients were reported in Bangkok with 3,457, followed by Nakhon Sri Thammarat with 1,440, Chonburi with 1,320,Samut Prakan with 886, Samut Sakhon with 687, and Chachoengsao with 617.
A total number of 163,264 people nationwide have received Covid-19 vaccines in the past 24 hours. Of that, 64,791 people had received their first shots, 16,145 people had received their second shots, and 82,328 people had received their third shots. This is roughly 78.4% of the total Thai population who have had their first shot of a Covid-19 vaccine, 71.9% who have had a second shot and are fully vaccinated, and 31.5% have had a third booster shot.
As of today, 23,339 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 3,250,642 cases with 3,004,752 recoveries and a total of 23,918 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
