RECAP: Thailand announces 21,678 daily Covid-19 infections with 78 additional deaths

Thailand reported a total of 21,678 daily Covid-19 infections with 78 additional deaths in the past 24 hours, the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) announced today, March 29th.

The fatalities were 46 men and 32 women with the highest rate in Bangkok with 7. 76 of them were Thai nationals and one of each was a Myanmar and a Lao national. The age range was between 24 and 97 years old.

Most of them were reported with underlying health conditions, including cancer (9), kidney disease (17), obesity (4), stroke (7), and heart disease (13). Four of the fatalities were bedridden patients.

Of the new cases, 21,424 were found in hospitals and medical services (which includes contact tracing cases), 122 were from a proactive approach at previously reported clusters, 68 were from prisons, and the remaining 64 were imported cases.

A number of 245,154 patients are still under treatment/isolation/medical care. Of that, 1,748 patients are in critical condition including 691 on ventilators. This is roughly 0.71 percent of cases that are critical while 39.53 percent of that is critical enough for a ventilator.

Regarding the non-prison local infections, the highest number of patients were reported in Bangkok with 3,611, followed by Chonburi with 1,089,Nakhon Sri Thammarat with 880, Samut Prakan with 857, Nonthaburi with 730, and Samut Sakhon with 690.

A total number of 121,596 people nationwide have received Covid-19 vaccines in the past 24 hours. Of that, 31,552 people had received their first shots, 10,320 people had received their second shots, and 79,724 people had received their third shots. This is roughly 79.6% of the total Thai population who have had their first shot of a Covid-19 vaccine, 72.3% who have had a second shot and are fully vaccinated, and 33.5% have had a third booster shot.

As of today, 27,183 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 3,575,398 cases with 3,305,286 recoveries and a total of 24,958 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
