 The Ministry of Public Health yesterday, June 7th, responded to the Rural Doctors of Thailand online statement, saying that more than 16 million doses were not only Sinovac, not yet expired, and not oversupplied.
Dr. Opas Karnkawinpong, Director-General of the Department of Disease Control, addressed the Rural Doctor Society group’s statement on Saturday which stated that the Ministry’s allocation of 16.8 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines to Tambon Health Promoting Hospitals nationwide was a careless way to simply litter and put a burden on the destination hospitals.
The Director-General stated that nearly 17 million allocated vaccines are not expired and are the number of vaccines that must be administered. And, the distributions will be addressed to Provincial Public Health Offices, not the Tambon Health Promoting Hospitals. If any promoting hospitals are vaccine oversupplied, they must notify the authorities.
Dr. Opas said: “The vaccines are not expired yet and can be administered. Don’t misunderstand that the vaccine is already expired, so people won’t come to get the booster shot. Because right now, the booster vaccination is only 41 percent whereas the public health’s goal is at 60 percent in each area.”
“Expired Covid-19 vaccines can happen just like other vaccines and medicines, because once distributed and people do not come to have a shot, they will be destroyed if expired according to the following regulations, it is a normal thing.”
He further denied the Rural Doctor’s accusation that the vaccines being allocated are not solely Sinovac and most of them are AstraZeneca and Pfizer – only less than 1 million doses are Sinovac.
