National —

Thai PM Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha ordered restaurants today, June 15th, to alert customers before mixing food with cannabis following a suspicious alleged cannabis-related casualty.

Thai media interviewed PM Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha today while he was on a visit to anorganic herb farm in the Sakon Nakhon province today, June 15th. In response to the question of cannabis usage for recreational purposes, Gen. Prayut answered:
“The relevant authorities are looking into the new products that contain cannabis. These products are better to be used for medical purposes rather than recreational as it may jeopardize the user’s life,” PM Prayut said “Also, they should be carefully examined by the authorities.”
The PM went on that products containing canabis need to be medically and scientifically certified. But most importantly, those who convince others to try cannabis need to explain its negative sides as well because some people are allergic to cannabis without knowing it, PM Prayut stressed.
“I do not want things to escalate to the irreversible point.” The PM stated.
The PM also stated that he spoke with Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who stated that the Draft of the Hemp and Marijuana Act had not been approved so far because it lacked regulations in some aspects such as the areas where cannabis usage is prohibited and the appropriate consumption of cannabis.
He also urged restaurant owners who wanted to use cannabis as an ingredient to inform customers permaturely or put up a sign to alert them. Also, they needed to follow the recommended portion as already instructed by Food and Drug Administration.
Lastly, PM Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha told the press that authorities were attempting to determine whether a cannabis consumer’s alleged death was caused by an overdose or not, which had drawn huge debate on social media.
