The franchisor of “Daruma” Japanese restaurant was arrested at Suvannabhumi International Airport this morning, June 22nd, while reportedly returning from abroad.
Metha Charingsuk, 42, was wanted by the Royal Thai Police after being accused of allegedly defrauding thousands of Daruma branch owners, employees, and customers, causing all 27 branches to shut down and damages worth more than 100 million baht in value.
Metha was immediately taken to the Consumer Protection Police Division for further investigation. Lieutenant General Jirapob Phuridet, Commander of the Central Investigation Police, said that the interrogation would proceed before announcing the arrest and report of the investigation to the press any time soon.
According to the police, the restaurant owner had flown to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates on June 16th and has just returned to Thailand this morning.
Metha is reportedly denying most of the accusations and charges as of late evening but his case will be forwarded to appropriate Thai courts.
