Pattaya —

Two brothers who were allegedly involved in serial crimes in Pattaya were arrested after viciously shooting a victim’s head while trying to steal a backpack. The two suspects also reportedly robbed another victim the other day and forced the victim to run for his life into the woods while blindfolded.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Theeradej Thammasutee, Commander of the Investigation Division of Provincial Police Region 2, held a press conference today, August 15th, 2022, to declare the arrest of two serial criminals, Naratip “Golf” Khumphai, 30, and Chayanat “Nut” Khumphai, 23, who were on the arrest warrants issued by Pattaya Court on August 13th. The two suspects who happened to be brothers were accused of committing two serious crimes including robbery and murder in the Chonburi area. The two were nabbed in Saraburi province on August 13th along with a handgun and a grey Toyota Camry sedan stolen from a victim.

According to officer Theeradej, Golf and Nut allegedly robbed the first victim named Saharat, 35, in Banglamung, Chonburi, on August 10th. The suspects threatened the victim with a gun and forced him to get into the trunk of his own car before driving to Chachoengsao province and ditching him there.

While blindfolded, the victim was compelled to run for his life into the woods as the suspects fired one round, according to the officer. The brothers then stole his phone, cash worth 1,000 baht, and a car before escaping.

On August 12th, Golf and Nut committed another robbery against Mr. Piyawat, 27, and Ms. Thanyarat, 24. Using the same gun, the two suspects extorted Mr. Piyawat for his backpack but he refused and tried to fight the suspects, Ms. Thanyarat stated. One of the suspects then viciously shot him in the head and stole his backpack before fleeing in the first victim’s sedan. The victim reportedly died later at a hospital.

Officer Theeradej said that Golf and Nut were arrested many times in Chonburi for various pickpocketing and drug cases. Their recent cruel acts were motivated by money and the fact that they were unemployed, the officer said.

The two men did not talk to the media and it wasn’t immediately clear if they had a lawyer.
