End of Covid-19 global pandemic is “in sight”, WHO director-general says

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus

International –

World Health Organization (WHO) director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Wednesday, September 14th, that “the end is in sight” for the COVID-19 pandemic.

The director-general said during a press conference at WHO’s headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland: “We have never been in a better position to end the pandemic. We’re not there yet, but the end is in sight.”

However, Dr. Tedros urged all countries to act cautiously and compared the Covid-19 fight to a marathon, saying that “now is the time to run harder and make sure we cross the line and reap the rewards of all our hard work.”

He also warned that all countries should carefully review their Covid-19 policies and strengthen the fight against Covid-19 as there is a risk of more variants, more deaths, more disruption and more uncertainty, if the world relaxed its Covid-19 measures.

All countries are advised to provide vaccination to those considered in high risk groups and to constantly continue conducting proactive searching for domestic infections.
