The Ministry of Interior and the Royal Thai Police on Monday, October 10th, jointly discussed active plans to eradicate the drug issues in Thailand, emphasizing the deadline by the end of October.
Sutthipong Chulacharoen, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Interior Ministry, and Police General Damrongsak Kittipraphat, National Police Chief, presided over the meeting to discuss solutions to drug abuse and selling in the country following the tragic mass shooting incident in Nong Bua Lamphu last Thursday.
The Ministry set the deadline for the government to complete information on drug trafficking nationwide by October 31st. The information will be a guideline for the local authorities to primarily monitor trafficking and trading activities.
Additionally, local rehabilitation centers were also planned to be established in good areas. Police officials, soldiers, members of the Volunteer Defense Corps, village headmen, and other related authorities would also assist the drug abusers along with the proper prescription of public health doctors and medical personnel throughout the rehabilitation for at least one week.
Chief Damrongsak stated that the plan was in line with Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha’s plan to eliminate the drug issues and take serious legal actions against drug offenders nationwide. As a large number of drug abusers did not receive treatment in public health, most of them were likely to develop psychiatric symptoms, and assault other people and their family members. The government, therefore, came up with the action plan as discussed to prevent more crime related to drugs.
