French Serial Killer Charles Sobhraj ‘The Serpent’ to Be Released from Nepal Prison

Nepal’s Supreme Court yesterday (December 21st) ordered the release of French serial killer Charles Sobhraj, 78, known as ‘The Serpent’ and the “Bikini Killer”.

Sobhraj admitted to killing at least 20 young Western backpackers in Asia including Thailand. He usually put drugs in their drinks and food.

He is also known as the ‘Bikini Killer’. In Thailand an arrest warrant was issued for him in 1970. He was accused of drugging and killing women in bikinis on Pattaya Beach.

He was arrested in Kathmandu in 2004. Nepal’s Supreme Court said Sobhraj has already served more than 75 percent of his sentence with good behavior. He also has heart disease. He has served a total of 19 years in prison while life sentences in Nepal are 20 years.

Last year, the BBC and Netflix produced a TV series based on his shocking crimes called ‘The Serpent.’
