Thai Police Eying Changing Traffic Police Uniforms to Look More Friendly and Approachable

National —

The Thai deputy national police chief is eying to change the color of the vest’s banners worn by traffic police to reflective green and yellow to improve visibility, make the police seem more friendly and approachable, and orderliness.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Torsak Sukvimol, deputy national police chief, said Sunday, January 1st, that this idea came after he inspected several police stations around the country and found that most traffic police wore vests with different color banners such as grey, red, black, brown, or yellow.

The deputy commented that this was not united and might cause confusion, adding some officers in the same police station even wore vests with different color banners.

Consequently, Pol. Maj. Gen. Torsak said he wanted to change the Thai traffic police vest to have a green-yellow stripe on top of a black short-sleeved jacket, which follows the model used by traffic police in England and the United States.

The policy could be completed within 2023, said Torsak

He added that the fabric used will be suitable for the hot weather in Thailand, and the prototypes will be made and tested at selected police stations before being distributed throughout the country.

He also said selected police will also be provided with tasers to defend themselves, the public, or victims during arrests or detainments, such as in cases where a suspect is under the influence of drugs or becomes violent and resists arrest.
