A Malaysian mother and her six year old daughter have been pronounced dead after a long-tail boat capsized in Krabi.
The Krabi Tourist Police told the Phuket Express that yesterday, (January 25th) a long-tail boat from ‘China Tour’ was taking a Malaysian family with a mother, a daughter and a father from a hotel in Mueang Krabi to Hong Island in the Ao Luek district nearby.
The boat’s captain, Mr. Sala Butsa, 45, told The Phuket Express while they were on the way back to the hotel some strong waves hit the boat. The boat capsized near the Hang Nak Cape in Ao Nang, Mueang Krabi. All the boat occupants were left floating in the sea.
A local fishing boat captained by Mr. Waris Changnam, 21, rescued all four of the boat occupants but he told local media that the Malaysian woman and the girl were face down in the water when he found them and already unconscious. Only the boat’s captain was wearing a life jacket. All four victims of the boat sinking were taken back to land while emergency responders were contacted. They were all finally taken to a local hospital.
The Malaysian mother, Mrs. Tan Chen Woon, 36, and her six year old daughter were pronounced dead at the hospital, while the father, Mr. Gan Kah Seng, 37, and the boat captain survived but are still in the hospital. It has also been reported that the mother was four months pregnant.
Two foreign tourists and a boat captain have been rescued after a long-tail boat capsized in Krabi.
