Russian Suspect Arrested for Allegedly Robbing other Russians for Money and Crypto Currency in Phuket

A Russian suspect was arrested for allegedly robbing other Russians for cash and crypto currency in Thalang.

The Region 8 Police told the Phuket Express today (February 2nd) that yesterday, (February 1st), they arrested Mr. Dnitry Shergin, 32, a Russian national at a resort in Karon. He is a wanted suspect with an arrest warrant from the Phuket Provincial Court issued on January 31st 2023.

He is being accused of robbery, illegal possession of firearms, carrying a gun in public without a permit and illegally detaining other people with other suspects who are allegedly involved in the incident and are still on the run.

The arrest came after on December 11th last year Mr. Viacheslav Kopan, 35, and Mr. Evgenii Kamolov, 32, both Russian nationals, filed a report to the Cherng Talay Police in Thalang.

They told police that at 1:00 A.M. they were attacked and threatened by a group of foreign suspects for 20,000 US dollars cash and 25,000 US dollars of a crypto wallet in Soi Cherng Talay 16.

After a full investigation, police have identified the suspect in which one of the victims’ friends has been allegedly involved in the incident.
