Four Nigerians Arrested in Phuket with More than 1200 Days of Overstay Each

Rawai, Chalong–

Four Nigerian men were arrested in Rawai and Chalong with more than 1,200 days of overstays each.

The Phuket Tourist Police told the Phuket Express yesterday (February 3rd) that they have arrested for Nigerian men who are:

  1. Mr. NAH KENNETH CHIBUZO, 34, who is now at 1,207 days of overstay. He was arrested at a rental room in Soi Palai, Chalong.
  2. Mr. JAMES CHINONYEREM ONWUMYIRIMMADU, 30, who is now at 1,469 days of overstay. He was arrested in Soi Chao Fa 49 in Chalong.
  3. Mr. OLIVER ABAZIE UCHECHUKWU, 34, who is now at 1,221 days of overstay. He was arrested in Soi Sai Yuan 9 in Rawai.
  4. Mr. MICHAEL ARINZE EJIOGU, 31, who is now at 1,236 days of overstay. (Place of arrest not identified.)

The Phuket Tourist Police told the Phuket Express the four Nigerian men were taken to the Chalong Police Station to face overstay charges and eventual deportation and blacklisting.

The arrest follows after officers received an anonymous tip-off from a concerned citizen that they (Foreigners from the African continent) stayed in an area where not many people lived and were suspected of being involved with romance scams.

The four suspects mostly only stayed at their accommodation and did not usually go out. Thai agencies took care of their room cleaning, delivering food, and finding place for them to stay. The concerned citizen contacted Thai Immigration as they were suspicious about the fact that the men appeared to be hiding and reclusive and reportedly wanted to safeguard the community.

Thai Immigration thanked the unidentified concerned citizen and encouraged more of what they called “good citizens” to come forward and report suspicious behavior.
