A Norwegian man was found dead with a slit throat in a Pattaya hotel bed last night, March 8th. His friends pointed their fingers at suicide.
The foreign man, aged 58, was discovered in a hotel room in Soi Bongkot 8 in the Nongprue sub-district of Banglamung district at 10 PM. His Thai friend, Ms. Angkhana Roswan, 40, told Pattaya Police responding to the incident that her Norwegian friend did not respond when she knocked on his door, so she asked a hotel maid to open the door for her with a spare key.
Once the two got inside the room, they were shocked to find the victim lying in a pool of blood on a bed. They then contacted the authorities. The police said that the tourist suffered a severe wound on his throat. A 15-cm-long knife was found beside the victim’s right hand. No indications of struggle, fighting, or breaking into the room were found at the incident scene, according to police.
Angkhana told the officers that the man often talked about taking his own life, but she had never expected that he would actually do it.
Police reported that after examining the building’s CCTV footage, they found no evidence of suspicious activity or individuals. The footage showed the deceased walking back to his room alone at 3 PM on the day before he was found dead. He had been staying at the hotel since January 17th.
According to some of the deceased’s friends who spoke to the police, the victim had recently broken up with his Thai girlfriend and had become withdrawn. His unidentified friends also further stated that the victim had expressed suicidal thoughts on multiple occasions.
Initially, Pattaya Police believed that the victim might have slit his own throat. The man’s body was transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine to confirm his cause of death.
