Songkhla, Southern –
Ten people have sustained injuries after a bus from Bangkok heading to Hat Yai that was carrying 30 passengers crashed in Songkhla.
The Rattaphum Police were notified of the accident on Tuesday morning (May 23rd) on the Asia Road in the Kamphaengphet sub-district, Rattaphum district.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find the bus on the road side. Ten injured people were found inside the bus. One of the injured was a woman who had broken her leg. They were all taken to nearby hospitals.
The main bus driver (Long haul buses in Thailand generally operate with multiple drivers), Mr. Sawas Srusen, 49, told Thai media, “I was sleeping while the second driver was driving the bus. The second driver told me that he was trying to pickup a mobile phone he dropped before he lost control of the bus.”
“The bus was traveling from Bangkok to Hat Yai in Songkhla. There were only about 22 kilometers left before arriving at the destination,” Mr. Sawas added.
The name of the actual driver who allegedly dropped his mobile phone and caused the crash was not immediately released by Rattaphum police who continue their investigation.
It was also not immediately clear if the bus company would face legal action over the crash.
