Officials from the Department of Provincial Administration (DOPA) led by Mr. Narong Thipsiri and Kathu Police raided two nightclubs ‘Ratree Club’ and ‘Maha Nakhon Phuket’ at 3:30 A.M. on Thursday (June 1st) in the early morning. Both nightclubs are located at the Kathu Intersection.

Mr. Narong told the Phuket Express that the raid came after DOPA received complaints from local residents nearby that these nightclubs were opened late daily until the morning and disrupting their sleep. Allegedly, Ratree would be open until around 4 AM and then nightclub goers walked across the road to the ‘Maha Nakhon Phuket’ Club on the opposite side of the street which closes at 6:00 A.M. everyday. The legal closing time is 2:00 A.M.

Hundreds of nightclub goers were found in both places. Both nightclubs were found with no legal licenses, added DOPA.

The owner of Maha Nakhon Phuket is facing charges of opening an entertainment venue without permission, opening over the legal time, selling alcohol over the legal time, selling alcohol to people aged under 20, and allowing people aged under 20 entry.

The owner of the Ratree Club is facing charges of opening an entertainment venue without permission, opening over the legal time, and selling alcohol over the legal time. The names of both the owners were not given by relevant officials.

Both nightclubs will be suggested to the Phuket Governor for the consideration of a five year shutdown and closure as a penalty.
