We do national recaps in a separate article, this is only the top local stories in Phuket province.

They are in no particular order of importance but roughly in order of publishing. These are from Monday, May 29th, 2023, to Sunday, June 4th, 2023.

1. A foreign male driver has destroyed a side mirror of a minivan during an alleged road rage incident in Wichit, Mueang Phuket.

An Australian driver is facing two legal charges after a road rage incident in which he destroyed a minivan’s side mirror in Wichit, Mueang Phuket.

An Australian man was fined 10,000 baht and paid 40,000 baht for damages after a road rage incident with a minivan in Wichit, Mueang Phuket. He also faced imprisonment for two months but he received suspension of his imprisonment sentence with one year probation.

This story was a major discussion point on our social media the past week.

2. Two illegal nightclubs were raided in Kathu for allegedly opening over the legal closing times and allowing minors to enter the venue.

Five senior Kathu Police including the chief have been transferred after two illegal nightclubs were raided in Kathu for allegedly opening over the legal closing times and allowing minors to enter the venue.

The Kathu District Chief has been transferred to be the Chang Klang District Chief in Nakhon Si Thammarat.

The legal closing time for nightclubs in Phuket is 2 AM.

3. Phuket will be officially announced by the Department of Disease Control (DDC) as the first province in Thailand that is rabies free.

In the past 15 years, no one in Phuket has died from rabies disease. Phuket will be officially announced as the first province in Thailand that is rabies free. This will allow tourists to have more confidence when visiting Phuket.

4. A wanted Australian couple has been arrested in Phuket after they allegedly stole 2.5 million baht from a Chinese man in Bangkok.

The foreign couple apparently worked as a team and allegedly stole the bag of money. The couple then fled to Phuket.

5. A Russian tourist drowned at a beach in Thalang after reportedly ignoring red flags that declare no swimming is allowed.

Lifeguards also warned him before he ignored them as well. The tourist drowned before he was pulled up from the water.

6. A lone foreign female tourist was forced out of a minivan in Phuket by drivers of other vans operating at the Phuket Rassada Port. The drivers claimed the tourist’s app-hailing van driver could not pick up passengers at the port and told the tourist to drag her suitcase out of there if she intended to use app-hailing services.

The driver later stated that he was told he was not allowed for pick-ups for the app, even though his van had legal yellow plates and other transport requirements.
