UPDATE: Moving Walkway Accident at Don Mueang Airport Might Have Been Caused by Falling Object

Bangkok –

The Engineer Institute of Thailand (EIT) said the moving walkway accident at the Don Mueang International Airport might have been caused by a sudden falling object.

A female passenger at the Don Mueang International Airport lost her lower leg after she fell down and got stuck in a moving walkway on June 29th, 2023.

A team of engineers from the EIT joined in the inspection and checked the moving walkway after the accident. Mr. Boonphong Kitwattanachai, an advisor to the mechanical engineering committee, told TPN media “The airport maintenance report of the walkway has been confirmed and checked. The moving walkway was tested daily before service. It is unlikely that poor maintenance could have been the cause of the accident.”

“After we checked the end of the walkway which was damaged, at this stage we believe that there might have been some object falling into the end of the device and causing a gap at the end. A luggage wheel got stuck in the gap before the woman fell and the gap trapped the passenger’s leg. However, the investigation for the exact cause of the accident will continue,” Mr. Boonphong added.
