Thai Youth Protesters Demonstrate Against Senator at Ministry of Culture

National —

The youth-led Thalu Wang protest group protested in front of the Thai Ministry of Culture on Sunday, August 6th, to demand the revocation of the national artist status of a senator who reportedly did not support the previous Move Forward-led coalition.

The gathering took place in the evening yesterday with a relatively small number of attendees, mostly Thai teenagers.

The goal of the demonstration was to call for the removal of the national artist status of a senator named Mr. Nawarat Pongpaiboon, who according to reports, chose to abstain from voting during the previous Prime Ministerial vote that saw Move Forward leader Pita Limjaroenrat failing to take office.

The protestors, clad in black attire and masks, spray painted graffiti symbols on the ground and on the sign in front of the Ministry of Culture to express their dissatisfaction with the ministry.

They also threw leaflets and smoke bombs over the ministry’s fence, although the overall activities were peaceful and nobody was hurt.

Several police officers were present at the ministry and restricted access to the protestors. Security personnel were also on guard to ensure safety of both the exterior and interior of the compound.

The protestors eventually left the area after completing their callout.
