Explosion at Laem Chabang Container Port Injures Seven People

Seven workers have been hospitalized following an explosion at a container warehouse in Laem Chabang Port in Chonburi’s Sri Racha district at 10:45 AM on Tuesday, August 29th.

The fire caused by the blast subsequently caught on fire 378 boxes of solid organic peroxide, causing approximately 170 workers at the site to experience chest tightness, difficulty breathing, and eye irritation.

Firemen from the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation office of the Laem Chabang Municipality attempted to extinguish the blaze and the seven workers who have been injured by the explosion were sent to Laem Chabang Hospital.

According to a report from local media, black and white smoke was spotted billowing out from the container storage yard within Laem Chabang Port. Subsequently, flames started to emerge and spread followed by a loud explosion. Then, workers in the vicinity were seen hurriedly fleeing the area. There was also a report of a pungent and acrid smell permeating the port.

The cause of the explosion is still unknown as of press time.
