A taxi driver in Bangkok returned a stack of banknotes totaling 52,000 Baht to a female Chinese tourist. The latter accidentally left the money in the back seat of the honest driver’s car.
On Tuesday, September 19th, Mr. Montree Sae Tang returned the cash to the woman, identified only as Ms. Yang, at the FM 91 traffic radio station.
On Sunday, Montree said he picked up the woman in the Prachachart Bamphen area and drove her to a hotel on Soi Sukhumvit 22. Later, he was hailed by another passenger who informed him that there were Thai banknotes scattered across the back seat of his taxi. There were no other documents.
After counting the money with the passenger, Montree found that there was over 52,000 Baht. Montree’s passenger helped him to contact a hotel where he had dropped the foreign woman off and learned that no one had reported their money missing.
Montree secured the money in a paper bag and dialed the FM 91 traffic radio station to request their assistance in locating the woman. He subsequently went to the station with the money, and together they reached out to the hotel and reviewed security camera footage, which revealed the Chinese woman disembarking from the taxi.
The radio station then contacted the Thong Lor Police Station and learned that a Chinese woman had reported her money missing there.
On Tuesday, Montree met with the woman again and returned her the money in the presence of staff from the radio station.
The honest driver said he never thought of keeping the money for himself. “I knew I wouldn’t feel right keeping it, he added.
Meanwhile, Ms. Yang stated she was impressed by the taxi driver’s honesty and the fact that many people tried to help her. She said she often visited Thailand for holidays.
