Flash Flood Derails Express Train in Phrae Province, Causing Minor Injuries and Service Suspensions

National –

Heavy rains caused an express train to derail from a flash flood on the way to Kaeng Luang-Ban Pin station, Phrae province. A few passengers suffered minor injuries and many trains were suspended.

At 5:48 AM, on September 30th, 2023, the express train number 13 Krungthep Aphiwat (Central Terminal Station)-Chiang Mai was derailed off the rail in Phrae province. The entire train capsized off the railway due to what authorities said were continuous heavy rains for a few days.

On an initial report from the derailment, no one was severely injured, with only a few passengers and railway officials suffering minor injuries. The State Railway of Thailand planned to deploy a special rail crane to lift the express train, Number 13 specifically.

As a result of the incident, several train services have been temporarily suspended in the Phrae area.
