Thai Agriculture Minister Provides Aid and Relief to Flood-Affected Areas

National —

The Thai Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives visited flooded areas in Lampang, Phrae, and Sukhothai Provinces to aid locals with disaster relief packages.

On October 1st, 2023, Capt. Thamanat Prompow, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, visited Mae Phrik District and Mueang District, Lampang Province, to solve flooding issues in the local areas, as well as distribute disaster relief packages to locals.

From September 27th to the 30th, 2023, heavy rains caused overflowing in river banks, damaging local households and agricultural areas in 8 districts.
Capt. Thamanat also stated that the public should be cautious about climate changes since it would lead to both drought and inundation. Relevant governmental departments will be proactively working to urgently aid those in need.

However, by 2024, the Department of Irrigation has a concrete plan to build 2 reservoirs and 2 Monkey Cheek projects (a royal project for the reservoir) as detention basins. This will improve the quality of life for farmers and help control floods.
Capt. Thamanat also made other visits to Phrae Province and Sukhothai Province to assist with flood-related issues.
