Oil Leak in Laem Chabang Port Area Prompts Swift Cleanup Operation

Laem Chabang—

A dredger in the Laem Chabang Port Project Phase 3 Harbor has an oil leak impacting the nearby ocean. However, according to relevant officials, the oil absorption cleanup project will be completed soon.

The Laem Chabang Port Department, Chonburi Harbor Master, and SRIRACHA OFFSHORE 88 CO, LTD. launched an operation to take control of the oil leak using an oil absorbent (Boom). The chemicals would also minimize the impact on the aquatic environment and marine life nearby.

On October 5th, 2023, Mr. Virayut Swangchaeng, Deputy Director of the Laem Chabang Port, revealed on an initial investigation that they could not locate the place where the leakage began. Mr. Viraryut then suspended shipping immediately. Currently, the situation is under control and the oil absorption will be complete soon.

“Therefore, citizens living in the area can be at ease because there will be no further oil leaks into the ocean,” said Mr. Virayut in a speech to local media.
