Daytime Sala Nam Ron Market Fire in Bangkok Under Investigation

Bangkok —

Abrupt flames in Sala Nam Ron Market, Bangkok, were put under control. The true cause is still under investigation.

At 1:00 PM, on October 11th, 2023, the Thonburi Railway Police Station received a fire report at Sala Nam Ron Market, Bangkok Noi, Bangkok. Firefighters and rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the incident scene.

The flea market has many closely packed stalls made from wood and zinc roofs which are highly flammable. Many local merchants also had stored their goods in their stalls such as cardboard, plastic, and gas. However, the firefighters sprayed water and got the flames under control after more than 30 minutes.

In an initial investigation, local merchants said that they witnessed smoke, abrupt fires, and periodic explosion sounds from inside the Sala Nam Ron market just before 1PM. They then rushed to relocate their goods and called for help from the relevant officials.

The police officers will conduct further investigation on witnesses and evidence on the scene to find the true cause of the fires.

There were no initial total estimated costs of damages to the market but the fire and smoke went viral on social media around the market during the incident. There were also no immediate reports of injuries or worse from the flames.
