Thai Police Bust Major Drug Trafficking Ring in Central Thailand

National —

Thai Police intercepted drug trafficking in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya and seized over 3,600,000 pills of amphetamine linked to an alleged drug trafficking boss.

On October 13th, 2023, the Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Provincial Police Division, Mr. Niwat Rungsakhon, the Governor of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, and relevant officials held a press conference about arresting five alleged suspects for drug trafficking.

The alleged drug smugglers were publicly identified only as Mr. Athit, 33-years-old, Mr. Saranyu, 25-years-old, Mr. Amarin, 40-years-old, Mr. Witawat, 31-years-old, and Mr. Phapan, 35-years-old.

The properties in dispute were 3,600,000 pills of amphetamine, with an estimated street value of 37,000,000 baht, and vehicles used for surveillance and drug transportation.

Niwat stated to Thai media that police officers and relevant officials had conducted an ongoing investigation on illicit substances-related cases which led to the arrests of many drug dealers. During the investigation, police officers found a link to a drug trafficking boss who was only publicly identified as Ms. Jamjira or “Cake”, and was currently on the run in a neighboring country.

The report showed that the five alleged drug smugglers transported amphetamine from Northeast to central Thailand. However, drug smugglers warned other members at a police checkpoint ahead. The suspects then went into hiding at Ban Phraek Hospital, Ban Phraek, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, before being arrested shortly after.

Some other alleged suspects were still on the run. Relevant police officers pledged to conduct a further investigation to hold the alleged suspects accountable for their crimes.
