A Little Less Pain at Thai Gas Pumps

National—

On October 24th, 2023, Mr. Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, the Minister of Energy, publicly posted on social media after the cabinet meeting on the approval of reducing the price of Gasohol 91 by 2.50 baht per liter for 3 months.

Pirapan stated to Thai media after the cabinet meeting that the Minister of Energy will apply the same approach as reducing the price of Diesel, the lowest price of all types. However, the Thai government’s burden should be taken into consideration as well, but it is all based on the current Petroleum price structure.

Pirapan emphasized it is necessary to relieve the burden that citizens had to bear at the high price as soon as possible. Furthermore, a future discussion on reducing the price of Gasohol 95 and other energy will be held after scrutiny.

“Within 7 days, reducing the price of Gasohol 91 should be effective right after the next cabinet meeting. The policy will last for 3 months after the approval by using the excise tax reduction mechanism at an estimated value of 1 billion baht,” asserted Pirapan.
