Thai Politician Urges Government to Implement Stricter Laws Before Extending Nightlife Hours

National —

Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, a list MP for the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party, advised the government to implement stricter laws before allowing bars to extend their operating hours until 4 AM.

Mr. Thanakorn, who is also a member of the government coalition, emphasized the need for rigorous enforcement of laws by police and administrative officers to ensure the safety of customers at entertainment venues. This comes in response to the government’s proposal to extend operating hours for nighttime venues from 2 AM to 4 AM, aimed at reviving Thailand’s struggling economy.

Citing a recent raid on a nightclub in Pathum Thani that revealed over 236 drug-positive patrons, Mr. Thanakorn stated that it is important to have effective measures in place to address issues like drug abuse, gun violence, and road accidents before granting nighttime businesses an extra two hours of operation.

He also suggested considering proper zoning for entertainment venues and taking into account the potential increase in alcohol-related accidents.

Mr. Thanakorn mentioned that there must be more severe penalties for those who beak the laws.
