Carnival Ride Collapses at Bangkok Fair, Injuring Three People

Bangkok –

A “giant squid” ride which was at a funfair in Bang Phlat malfunctioned with a section of the attraction collapsing, injuring three people.

The Bang Yi Khan Police was notified of the incident on Thursday night (October 26th) at the Siam Carnival Funfair on the Arun Amarin Road under the Rama 8 Bridge in Bang Yi Khan.

Police and emergency responders arrived at the scene to find the Polipo giant squid fair machine. One of the machine’s arm hydraulics had malfunctioned and collapsed while the machine was moving.

Three people who were on the ride during the accident had been injured. They were identified only as a 14 year-old girl, Ms. Piyawan, 24, and Ms. Thanyarat, 29. They were all taken to a nearby hospital.

The machine manager, whose name was withheld by police, said they tested the machine before service and it was normal. This was the first ever accident with this machine and the manager said the machine was imported from Italy so any fault would be with the original manufacturer and not them. However, the Bang Yi Khan Police are continuing their investigation for further potential legal action.
