Khon Kaen –

A driver has sustained lung damage and broken both of his legs while 29 passengers escaped serious injuries after a bus overturned in Mueang Khon Kaen.

Emergency responders were notified of the accident on Saturday (October 28th) on the bypass road near the Non Rueang Intersection in Baan Kor sub-district. The first responders arrived at the scene to find the overturned passenger bus ‘Kanchanaburi – Nong Khai’ in the middle of the road.

The driver, identified only as Mr. Sitthichai, 58, had broken both legs and his lung was damaged. Twenty-nine passengers had sustained various injuries. Of those, ten of them were taken to nearby hospitals but none of the injuries were seen as serious, said first responders.

Passengers told local Thai media that the bus driver lost control of the vehicle during a rainstorm before crashing into a power pole and overturning. Passengers broke the glass windows of the bus and climbed out from the wreckage. Some passengers who did not go to a local hospital were taken to another bus to their final destinations.

The Weluwan Police are continuing their investigation to find the exact cause of the accident.
