Samui Island, Surat Thani –

An intoxicated 23-year-old German man who was overstaying was arrested after he stole a motorbike from a local resident on Samui Island.

Samui Immigration told the Phuket Express that earlier this week they had arrested a 23-year-old German man while he was close a hotel near Chaweng Beach. He was found to have overstayed for 34 days. The German man was also intoxicated.

The German man had drunkenly stolen a motorbike from a local resident and left it near Chaweng Beach, said Samui Immigration. The motorbike owner reported the theft and police easily followed the trail via CCTV, finding the suspect near the beach, and the young German man was taken to Bo Phut Police Station to be deported.

Samui Immigration told the Phuket Express that the German had been arrested before for causing a public nuisance. During that prior incident, he had a tourist visa and had spent all his money and had no place to stay and as a result was causing problems for other local residents.

It was unclear why the suspect was released after that prior incident, although during that situation he was not on overstay. Samui Immigration did not release the name of the man but stated he would be blacklisted and deported. It was also not clear if he would face criminal charges for the theft of the motorbike before any deportation procedures or if Thailand would choose to just remove him from the country.
