Over 9.3 Million Convictions Expunged in Thailand, Thaksin Shinawatra Currently Not Eligible for Criteria

National—

On November 16th, 2023, Pol. Gen. Torsak Sukvimol, the commissioner general of the Royal Thai Police, publicly revealed the expungement of more than 9.3 million out of 13 million convictions within 2 years.

Thai reporters mentioned Ex-Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, currently undergoing treatment in the Police General Hospital, and whether he is in the criteria for expungement or not. Pol. Gen. Torsak answered to Thai reporters that Thaksin is not in the criteria as he committed felony crimes with a sentence of more than 1 year.

Thaksin is under the supervision of the justice process or the Thai Department of Corrections, and he has nothing to do with the Thai Police Department anymore, added Police General Torsak.

As for whether a royal pardon will be issued to Thaksin or not, Pol. Gen. Torsak said the Police Department holds no responsibility and authority to do so and as a result has no comment on this possibility.
