Lampang—

On December 6th, 2023, Pol. Lt. Gen. Kritthaphon Yisakorn, the Deputy Commander of Provincial Police Region 5, and relevant officials held a press conference on the arrest of two alleged drug smugglers with more than 1.3 million amphetamine pills in Mae Phrik, Lampang.

The two alleged suspects were publicly identified only as Mr. Worapot, 43, and Mr. Chainarong, 43.

According to a report by Mae Phrik police officers, an anonymous source reported that there were two vehicles suspected of drug smuggling. However, as the suspected vehicles approached a police checkpoint, they made a U-turn and zoomed off, said the police.

The Mae Phrik Police then pursued the suspects and decided to shoot the tire out of one of the suspects’ vehicles until they were cornered and surrendered.

The police officers then inspected the vehicles and discovered 6 sacks containing 200,000 pills of amphetamine each. The police officers further added that the two suspects were allegedly connected to drug smuggling from a nearby country’s border into central Thailand.

Initially, the police officers confiscated more than 1.3 million pills of amphetamine as evidence and escorted Worapot and Chainarong to Mae Phrik police station for further legal processing.
