Thai Police Bust Major Meth Smuggling Gang in Mukdahan

Mukdahan —

Region 4 Police successfully intercepted a drug trafficking gang in the province of Mukdahan on Sunday, December 10th, seizing over 600,000 methamphetamine pills.

Acting on a tip, Region 4 Police stopped a white Mitsubishi Attrage sedan, registered in Bangkok, on Saturday night. The vehicle was travelling from the Don Tan district towards the Mueang Mukdahan district when it was pulled over.

During the search of the vehicle, officers found Mr. Daeng (pseudonym), 30, a resident of Mukdahan, driving the vehicle and Mr. Itthipon (pseudonym), 27, seated beside him. Three bags containing a total of over 600,000 methamphetamine pills were discovered in the car. Additionally, an unregistered Glock 19 handgun and 45 rounds of ammunition were found beneath the passenger seat.

Both suspects confessed to receiving the narcotics from an unidentified individual in the Tha Nam sub-district, Don Tan district, and were intended for distribution to customers in the Khon Kaen province and other Northeastern regions.

A second vehicle, a grey Isuzu Dmax pickup truck, was also identified as part of the operation, acting as a scout vehicle to clear the route. The checkpoint at Phra Khrai Sri Suk in the Nong Soong district was alerted and intercepted the truck. Mr. Kritawit (pseudonym), 27, and Ms. Prapatsiri (pseudonym), 25, were found inside the vehicle. No illegal items were found, and both reportedly confessed to conspiring with the two mentioned smugglers.

All four suspects, along with the seized narcotics, a firearm, and ammunition, were taken into custody at the Mukdahan Police Station. They face charges of conspiracy to distribute Type 1 narcotics and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Region 4 Police are proceeding with the asset forfeiture of the suspects’ property worth 1.46 million baht. The investigation to find the seller of the drugs is ongoing.
