On December 21st, 2023, Thai national media publicly reported the results of the meeting of the Thai House of Representatives on four bills of the Equal Marriage Act, the votes were 369:10 approving the first agenda with 1 abstention.
The first bill was presented by the Thai cabinet and the other three bills which have similar details were presented by the Move Forward Party, the Democrat Party, a group of activists for gender diversity, and more than 11,611 people.
The meeting then presented the names of 39 committee members to consider the bills in the next agenda. The deadline is 15 days for amendments and the consideration of the second agenda will use the bill of the Thai cabinet as a principal.
Meanwhile, Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin posted on X, formerly Twitter, regarding the approval of the equal marriage bill, in which he congratulated the LGBTQIA+ community with overwhelming votes in favor and said the first step of change has begun.
