Rampaging Knife Attack Leaves One Dead, Several Injured, and Vehicles Damaged in Lampang

Lampang—

At 8:00 PM, on December 26th, 2023, Ngao police officers received a knife crime report about a volunteer defense officer being stabbed to his death in Ngao, Lampang. The suspect harmed six other people during the escape and caused many vehicles to crash.

According to a report by the police, the suspect, who was publicly identified as Mr. Nonpawit Saejang, 39, fled with his motorbike before robbing a green pickup truck one kilometer away from the scene where he first stabbed a volunteer defense officer who was publicly identified as Mr. Phisit Sittitchum, 42.

After Nonpawit robbed the green pickup truck, he then attempted to rob another pickup truck at Nong Hiang PTT gas station, according to the police. However, the 61-year-old pickup truck owner locked himself inside the vehicle after being harmed by Nonpawit, reported the police.

However, Nonpawit reportedly drove his stolen green pickup truck for 7 kilometers before attempting another car robbery from a 45-year-old female seafood vendor. Nonpawit then zoomed off with his newly robbed pickup truck for 5 kilometers before crashing into other vehicles parked at a market in Pong Tao Subdistrict, Ngao, said the police.

Nonpawit went rampant and slashed bystanders before stealing another pickup truck. Not far away, the police eventually tracked down and took hold of Nonpawit in Mae Chai, Phayao. As a result of the incident, one casualty and six injuries by knife were reported, and multiple vehicles had crashed and were damaged.

Initially, the suspect reportedly confessed that he previously had an argument with his girlfriend in Chiang Rai and took some amphetamine pills. Nonpawit then headed to Phitsanulok for work by his motorbike. However, at a Ngao drug checkpoint, he committed a knife crime and took the life of a volunteer defense officer.

Consequently, the police would investigate further and gather evidence from local CCTV footage to hold Nonpawit accountable for his crimes in legal proceedings.
