Amphetamine was found in the blood stream of a boat captain after a speedboat crashed into rocks near the Maithon Island in Chalong, killing a five-year-old Russian girl on holiday.

Additionally, six foreign tourists and a boat crew member sustained various injuries after their speedboat in the same accident crashed with rocks near the Maithon Island in Chalong.

Now for the update:

The Deputy Director of the Phuket Provincial Health Office Mr. Somsuk Sampanprateep told the Phuket Express on Monday (January 1st) that a drug test was conducted on the boat captain who was still in coma. He will be provided an undisclosed medical operation on Monday (January 1st).

The drug test found amphetamine which is an illegal drug in the bloodstream of the boat captain. The boat crew is being tested for drugs also although the results were not immediately available.

The name of the boat captain had still not been released by relevant authorities as of press time.

Chalong police have not yet filed charges relating to the fatal accident, citing that they are waiting for medical surgeries to be conducted on the captain and see if he recovers from his injuries, at which point they plan to interview the man.

The other boat crew members and passengers continue to recover from moderate to mild injuries at local medical facilities.
