A taxi motorbike rider has died while another has sustained injuries after a public daylight knife fight in Patong.
The Patong Police were notified of the incident on Thursday (January 11th) afternoon at a taxi motorbike stall on the Phra Baramee Road.
Police, emergency responders, and the Phuket Express arrived at the scene to find that a taxi motorbike rider, Mr. Samanmart Ueanoat, 61, from Phetchaburi, had sustained severe injuries from stab and slash wounds. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Another taxi motorbike rider, Mr. Tawatchai Kaewsamsri, 41, from Phatthalung, had sustained injuries from slash wounds to one of his legs.
Witnesses told police that the two men were taxi motorbike riders at the same taxi stall and had previous conflicts before. They had been verbally arguing about an undisclosed matter before a physical fight began. It was not immediately clear who had struck first or started the confrontation, said the witnesses.
The Patong Police are continuing their investigation for further legal action as of press time and Mr. Tawatchai will be fully interviewed after medical treatment.
