Tragic Accident in Kanchanaburi: Two Refuse Collectors Fatally Injured in Collision at Motorway Tunnel

At 3:10 PM, on January 23rd, 2024, Tha Ruea police received an accident report of two refuse collectors fatally hitting their heads at a motorway tunnel while sitting on the top of a garbage truck in Tha Maka, Kanchanaburi.

The victims, publicly identified only as Mr. Apinyo, 24, and Mr. Narongsak, 27, were found in severe condition as their skulls were fractured, according to the police.
Upon the police investigation, the motorway tunnel allowed vehicles under 4 meters only, and there were traces of bloodstains and a collision.

While the victims sat at the top of the garbage truck to sort plastic bottles into bags, the garbage truck driver, publicly identified as Mr. Chuchat Phromsawat, 43, drove the truck and collided with the motorway tunnel, causing the two refuse collectors to lose their lives, according to the police.

The driver told the police after the accident that he allegedly brought the victims to a nearby health station for immediate medical treatment. However, the victims were announced deceased later after being transferred to Makarak Hospital, Kanchanaburi.

However, Ratchaburi Hospital would perform an autopsy to determine the exact cause of the accident before holding a religious ceremony.

Initially, the police escorted Chuchat to Tha Ruea police station for further legal proceedings and pressed charges of careless driving causing the death of other persons.
