A wanted Russian man with an INTERPOL Red Notice and ten years of overstay, who used to stay in Phuket, was arrested in Banglamung, not far from Pattaya.
The Royal Thai Immigration Bureau told the press about the incident on Friday (February 9th). They arrested Mr. Mik (alias), 34, a Russian national, in front of a house in Nongprue. He was taken to the Pattaya City Police Station to face charges of overstay (2,971 days) and to wait to be deported.
The arrest came after in December of last year, Chonburi Immigration was notified from a tip by a concerned citizen that Mr. Mik who had previously lived in Phuket was now in Chonburi and had been overstaying, according to the tip, for many, many years.
Chonburi Officers also found that the suspect is wanted in his own country on an INTERPOL Red Notice and was allegedly involved in illegal drugs. This likely contributed to the overstay, said Immigration officials, as the suspect would have been unable to secure a new passport from his embassy due to the INTERPOL red notice.
Mr. Mik did not speak to the press or release a statement.
