Following a recent incident involving a royal motorcade and subsequent public disturbance, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has underscored the paramount importance of ensuring the royal family’s security.
The incident, which occurred on February 4, involved activists allegedly attempting to disrupt a royal motorcade. In response, Srettha has directed the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and other relevant agencies to enforce strict security measures for royal motorcades.
The Prime Minister’s statement comes in the wake of tensions following a public survey conducted by student activist Tantawan Tuatulanon, which led to a confrontation with a royalist group. The Premier has since appealed for calm and urged that disagreements be resolved through dialogue in appropriate forums such as parliament or academic settings.
National Police Chief Pol Gen Torsak Sukvimol announced that formal charges related to the motorcade incident are imminent, with investigations suggesting the involvement of advisors behind the activists’ actions. The police are also evaluating the incident for potential offenses under Thailand’s lese majesty law.
