Thailand Extends Visa Exemption for Kazakhstani Tourists Until August 31st

National —

The Thai Cabinet has approved a six-month extension of the visa exemption for Kazakhstani visitors, valid until August 31st, 2024, in a bid to further boost tourism.

This announcement, released on February 20th, 2024, follows a significant rise in arrivals from Kazakhstan, with over 172,000 tourists visiting Thailand after the Thai government decided to waive visa requirements for Kazakhstani citizens in September last year.

The decision, revealed by Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin after a Cabinet meeting, aims to capitalize on the positive contribution Kazakhstani tourists make to the economy through their spending capacity.

According to Government Spokesperson Chai Watcharong, from September 25th, 2023, to January 10th, 2024, over 68,824 tourists from Kazakhstan visited Thailand. In 2023, a total of 172,282 Kazakhstani tourists arrived in Thailand, marking the highest record. On average, the tourists spent approximately 75,080 baht per person per visit, indicating their high potential and purchasing power.

The waiver was previously scheduled to end on February 29th.
