National—
On February 22, 2024, the Thai Meteorological Department announced the beginning of summer in Thailand on February 21, 2024.
Thailand officially transitioned from winter to summer on February 21, 2024, as most parts of Thailand experienced consistently hot weather, with temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius. This was due to the increased influence of sunlight, coupled with southerly winds covering the upper part of Thailand. These weather conditions were typical of the hot season.
However, in the northern and northeastern regions, mornings were expected to remain cool until around mid-March. It was predicted that the hot season would come to an end around mid-May 2024.
As Thailand entered summer, various regions would experience different impacts. While the central and southern areas were expected to face consistently high temperatures, the northern and northeastern parts might still have cooler mornings for the next few weeks.
Temperatures during this year’s summer were expected to be 1.0-1.5 degrees Celsius higher than normal and higher than the previous year as the El Niño phenomenon was in effect.
