Thai Minister of Transport Announces Plans to Improve Public Transportation Before Songkran Festival

National—

At 9:00 AM, on February 27th, 2024, Mr. Suriya Juangroongruangkit, the Thai Minister of Transport, publicly revealed public transportation news to the press for the upcoming Songkran Festival, prompting relevant agencies to increase the frequency of trains, buses, and airlines.

Suriya advised Thai people to plan traveling trips and buy tickets beforehand for this upcoming Songkran Festival whether by trains, buses, or planes.

Recently, Suriya addressed the high domestic flight ticket price issue with the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) to consider a new formula in the calculation for flight costs. Suriya reportedly asserted that fare reductions would be implemented before the Songkran Festival.

Suriya further added that the Mo Chit Bus Terminal/Chatuchak Bus Terminal was under maintenance due to previous complaints about its poor condition during the recent New Year Holidays.

However, Suriya stated that Mo Chit Bus Terminal would be in better condition by April, and the total maintenance would be complete in one year and a half.

In the long term, Suriya publicly revealed that Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal or Bang Sue Grand Station would be a transportation hub in Thailand, having all terminals in one place for convenience. The plan was to establish a new building separating sections on each floor, remarked Suriya.

The details were not reported on the starting and finishing date, and the budget and plans were not revealed on the mega project, noted TPN.
