At 6:30 PM, on February 29th, 2024, Thai police and intelligence officers intercepted two suspects involved in a drug smuggling operation with 10 million amphetamine pills from north Thailand, Phichit, to central Thailand, at a PT gas station in Bang Pahan, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya.
According to the police report, intelligence officers tracked down two suspected vehicles including a truck carrying illicit substances and a surveillance pickup truck heading from Phayao to Ayutthaya. As a result, the suspects, publicly identified only as Mr. Charat, 47, and Mr. Teeranun, 45, were captured at PT gas station in Ayutthaya.
The police were able to seize 50 rucksacks containing more than 10 million amphetamine pills using agricultural products as disguises. The two suspects were escorted to the Bang Pahan Provincial police station for further legal processing.
At 11:00 PM, on the same day, Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul performed a field inspection at the Bang Pahan Provincial police station and interrogated the suspects himself. This successful operation was in collaboration with Thai police and military officers in tracking down the drug smuggling from Phayao to Ayutthaya.
The Thai government gave importance to illicit substance issues with integration from relevant agencies that could deter, eradicate, and address illicit substance issues with strict measures continuously at local and national levels, according to Anutin.
