A Swiss Expat in Phuket at the center of a viral incident who has a Business Visa may have it extended due to ongoing legal action, even as some Phuket officials and residents call for his immediate deportation.

A legal long-term visa permit for staying in Thailand is to be requested to be revoked for the Swiss expat who allegedly kicked a Thai doctor in a viral incident last month that has dominated Thai media headlines.

Now for the update:

Phuket Vice Governor Adul Choothong clarified that the Swiss Expat in question, Mr. David, who holds a one-year business visa in Thailand, is facing current legal issues related to the viral incident. His visa is set to expire on March 13th. However, due to the ongoing legal proceedings, his visa cannot be revoked immediately.

Here are the scenarios likely to happen according to Mr. Adul:

1. Legal Process Concludes Before March 13th:
– If the legal process concludes before the visa expiration date, Mr. David may have Phuket Immigration authorities proceed with the visa revocation and deportation process, although this isn’t set in stone.

2. Legal Process Concludes After March 13th:
– If the legal process extends beyond March 13th, Phuket Immigration will need to extend his visa until the legal matters are resolved.
– Mr. David has denied the accusation of kicking a doctor, and the next step will involve legal proceedings in court.
– During this period, he will be granted a ‘Suspect Visa’.

A request document seeking the revocation of Mr. David’s permit to stay in Thailand is currently in the possession of the Phuket Immigration. The request was made by relevant Phuket officials, however, is not a guarantee that David will be deported, who is reportedly working with his own legal team to fight any such order.
