On March 12th, 2024, the Office of the Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) unanimously resolved to submit a petition to the Constitutional Court to order the dissolution of the MFP, or Move Forward Party.
On February 29th, 2024, the Thai Constitutional Court unanimously ruled that Mr. Pita Limjaroenrat’s action, the leader of the Move Forward Party, and the Move Forward Party (MFP) previously proposed that a bill to amend Section 112 was an exercise of rights or freedoms to overthrow the Democratic form of Government with the King as Head of State according to Section 49.
The Office of the Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) presented the study results and analysis of the decision from the Constitutional Court to the Election Commission in which the evidence was believed that the respondents committed an act of subversion of the government according to Section 92.
Therefore, the ECT unanimously resolved to submit a petition to the Constitutional Court to order the dissolution of the MFP according to Section 93.
According to Thai national media, the Office of Law and Legal Affairs of the Election Commission must draft a petition to submit to the Constitutional Court and attach evidence, especially the decision of the Constitutional Court. Once the draft petition was complete, it could be immediately submitted to the Constitutional Court for consideration and decision.
It was reported that it would take up to two days, and the typical process would take less than one week.
Mr. Parit Wacharasindhu, the spokesman for the MFP, publicly revealed that the MFP had prepared a legal team in advance and the conclusion should not be made hastily.
The MFP legal team would work hard to vindicate the party by proving its innocence and prevent the party from being dissolved, said Parit.
Parit asserted that MFP comprehensively prepared contingency plans to handle the situations even in the worst-case scenario. Parit further added that the MFP members had concerns regarding the impact on the values of Thai politics afterward.
The MFP members would still dedicate themselves and remain concentrated on working toward their ideology in Thai politics, said Parit.
