Thai Tourist Police Ensure Safety Measures for Songkran Festival 2024 with Hotline 1155 and “Tourist Police i lert u” App


On April 3rd, 2024, Pol. Lt. Gen. Saksira Phueakam, the commander of the Thai tourist Police, and relevant agencies held a press conference regarding security measures for tourists during the Songkran Festival 2024.

According to Pol. Lt. Gen. Saksira, the Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin issued an order to relevant agencies to facilitate and monitor the safety of people and tourists during the Songkran Holidays. The tourist police received a policy to coordinate with relevant agencies to assist tourists via hotline 1155 and the application “Tourist Police i lert u” as a One-Stop Service.

The Thai tourist police across the country were well-prepared and deployed vehicles, devices, and new technologies to facilitate and monitor the safety of tourists especially in 86 designated areas for Songkran events in Thailand, according to Pol. Lt. Gen. Saksira.

Furthermore, the Thai Tourist Police Bureau established a call center via hotline 1155 connected to other emergency services such as 191 and 1669 to receive urgent reports 24/7 in Thai, English, Russian, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese, said Pol. Lt. Gen. Saksira.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Saksira further added that the Thai Tourist Police Bureau organized a Strong Tourism Community (S.T.C.) project in 33 places across Thailand including Khao San Road, Bangkok, Bangla Walking Street, Phuket, Walking Street, Pattaya, and other tourist attractions.

The STC integrated with private, public, and civilian sectors to enforce security measures for tourists, creating more than 1,611 tourist police volunteers from employees in various establishments such as convenience stores, entertainment venues, hotels, and others, remarked Pol. Lt. Gen. Saksira.
