On April 17th, 2024, the Thai Constitutional Court published an official document regarding the Thai Election Commission’s request for the dissolution of the Move Forward Party.
However, the respondents, MFP, filed a request to extend the period for submitting a statement of defense to the Thai Constitutional Court for another 30 days. After deliberation, the Constitutional Court agreed that the period should be extended for another 15 days and the statement of defense must be presented on or by May 3rd, 2024.
Mr. Nakharin Mektrairat, the Constitutional Court president, publicly revealed that MFP filed a request to extend the period for submitting a statement of defense regarding the dissolution of the party.
The allegations were that the MFP previously proposed that a bill to amend Section 112 was an exercise of rights or freedoms to overthrow the Democratic form of Government with the King as Head of State according to Section 49.
Initially, the extension could be approved for up to 15 days and may be extended further as appropriate based on the MFP’s explanation and evidence, stated Nakharin.
It was reported that the decision-making process on the petition to dissolve the MFP would not happen within April, according to Thai national media.
